If the transmitter is not going to be used for more than four days, we recommend that it be turned off by placing a magnet over the word “STOP” located on the side of the transmitter. You should use the button magnet shipped with the PTT. Never use a bar magnet because the magnetic field from the magnet would be at 90° to the switch, resulting in an unreliable closure of the switch.
IMPORTANT—the PTT should be allowed to run for one complete cycle before being attached to the animal to check if it is functioning properly.
Care of the Batteries
If the transmitter is going to be left switched off for extended periods it is recommended that it should be allowed to transmit for one hour every two weeks to prevent passivation of the lithium batteries. Also, storing the unit at low ambient temperature is beneficial for the batteries. Solar PTTs should be stored out of their boxes and exposed to direct sunlight (four hours each month) to maintain a charge in the batteries. Please refer to your user manual for details.
