X-Tag
Tiny Next Generation Archival Pop-up Tag
- Emergency Pop-off at over pressure - If the tag descends below 1200m an Emergency pop off is initiated, releasing the tag from its tether before it exceeds the crush depth. This feature can be disabled. Note: - no external device needs to be added to the tether to achieve this feature, such devices add extra hydrodynamic drag to the tether and have been reported to cause premature wear of the tether and possible abrasion to the fish.
- Very simple deployment - To deploy just simply remove the magnet from the tag at least 5 minutes before attachment to the fish. There is no complex procedure to follow to ensure that the tag is in the correct mode. Testing of the tag through Argos can be done several days beforehand, again by simply removing the magnet before a satellite overpass.
- Strong tether attachment point - Potentially the weakest link between the tag and the fish, - the electrically corrodible link is firmly anchored in the nose of the tag and can withstand a pull of 150 lbs.
- 15,000 Argos message transmission capability - The battery will support the transmission of 15,000 individual messages, at full power, to Argos over 20+ days ( 50% more than the original tag ) When combined with our SiV™ feature this results in the equivalent of 36,000 transmissions to Argos compared to a tag that transmits continuously. This results in an equivalent higher data collection rate.
